HLV5-3 Helvite
on Albite $325 SOLD A substantial and very displayable sample of the one-time find of pyramidal Helvite (Mn24+Be3[S|(SiO4)3]) on finely-bladed Albite from the Navegadora Mine.
HOP8-1
Hopeite $275 SOLD Centuries of bat droppings are said to aide the crystallization of Hopeite in the caves at this locale by providing a rich supply of nitrates. This specimen contains over one hundred relatively large (up to 6 mm) prismatic Hopeite crystals on a heavy matrix, probably Smithsonite. Hopeite (Zn3(PO4)2•4H2O) is a quite rare hydrated zinc phosphate found bigger than micromounts at only a few locations worldwide. The biggest and best Hopeites are said to come from this mine, and this is a very rich specimen.
GEO10-31
Howlite Nodule "Poodles", pair mounted in plaster $45
Tick Canyon, Lang, Los Angeles Co., California Tick Canyon is famous for its Howlite (Ca2B5SiO9(OH)5) nodules, and this nodule looks exactly like the faces of two dogs! I can see their ears, eyes and noses. Howlite is sometimes dyed blue as a fake Turquoise - its texture and the black lines running through it do make it resemble Turquoise, but usually the dyes are too bright to be real Turquoise.
