GEO10-03  Quartz with Fluorescent Calcite in Geode  $38

Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa

Keokuk geodes are possibly the most famous US geodes.  They are of sedimentary origin.  As with the volcanic geodes, it is believed that the spaces in the sediment were formed first, and the geode material filled in the spaces at a later date.  This geode has a sprinkling of a few tiny, pale tan Calcite (CaCO₃) rhombs (the photos on the right) that fluoresce white in both LWUV and SWUV, on top of the Quartz, which is very slightly Amethyst-colored.  I would guess that the unusual fluorescence under LWUV is probably due to some petroleum inclusions, which is common in the area.  This large Keokuk half comes with tags from two previous dealers, CT Minerals and Al McGuinness.

QNZ10-2  Quartz  $18 SOLD

Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, North Island, New Zealand

5.6 cm x 1.6 cm x 1.5 cm

Not to forget the Quartz collectors, here's a complex colorless specimen from the North Island.  It has a main Quartz crystal coated with secondary growth of dozens of smaller crystals, most parallel but some at almost 90 degrees, all with milky phantoms.  Another interesting thing about this piece is that 3 of the 6 faces predominate so much that the remaining three have almost disappeared.

QL10-3  Quartz (DT) Modified by Lightning  $52 SOLD

Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil

10.2 cm x 2.3 cm x 2.1 cm

This is a doubly-terminated clear quartz with a few small Muscovite inclusions.   The modifications induced by the lightning strike form a chain of marks and indentations following the edge of one face.

QL10-5  Quartz Modified by Lightning  $42  SOLD

Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil

6.0 cm x 1.3 cm x 1.4 cm

The modifications induced by the lightning strike form a chain of marks and indentations spanning 3 faces of the crystal, leaving it highly distorted.  The main crystal has also enveloped 2 tiny Quartz crystals near the termination.

QWL5-1  Quartz with Hematite and Copper Inclusions  $55 SOLD

A frosted quartz crystal with a extra drapery of Copper and Hematite-containing Quartz.  There is a small contact on the tip of the Quartz, but the inclusions are vividly colored and sharply detailed.

FQ8-1 Six-Axis Faden Quartz with Chlorite Inclusions   $130 SOLD

Toyee, near Wana, South Wajiristan, Pakistan

8.2 cm x 6.2 cm x 3.3 cm

An exceptionally beefy and aesthetic faden Quartz with nice green accents of included Chlorite and crystals growing in six different directions.  The word "faden" is German for thread, twine or filament since these Quartz pieces appear to have a thread running down the axis from which the crystals grow. The thread is actually a series of bubbles or nuclei from which the Quartz originates.  It is thought that they grow in a fissure as it widens.
