Tahoe Rim
Trail

The Tahoe
Rim Trail is 165 miles long and completely encircles Lake Tahoe.

The photos on this page show a segment that goes to Star Lake. The
first switchback has a beautiful view of Reno.

The next switchback
shows Lake Tahoe.

Something took
out the center of this tree and made it branch out.

Note the circular
green farm fields at the right (south) end of the valley.

Closeup.

Part of the Washoe
Valley (south of Reno) is very marshy in spring.

The trail keeps
going up and giving ever more altitude on the valley views.

Zooming in.

Magnificent trees.

We saw a glider
plane being towed up over the valley.

The back of Slide
Mountain.

Don't know the
name of this mountain.

Incredible scenery
and still a lot of snow for July.

Towards the southeast,
the mountains on the other side of Washoe Valley have snow.

There's even
some patches of snow on the trail at 7000'.

Towards the left
is a bit of Washoe Lake.

A mountain stream.

One portion of
the trail had more ant hills than I have ever seen in one place.

I liked this
tree bark.

Roots of dead
tree.

More dead roots.

Wildflowers.

Some weird orange
fungus.

I really like
this orange fungus.

Yellow fungus.

White fungus
on a dead tree trunk.

I really like
lichens, so here are a few photos.

More lichen.

The green stuff
seems to lead the way for the brown.

Here's a really
dark-colored one.

Nice brown lichen.

I don't know
if this airy yellow-green stuff is lichen or what.
