Egypt - page 3 - Luxor

On the drive to the Valley of Kings near Luxor.

Kid washing his feet under the communal faucet.

The Colossi of Memnon.  There used to be a temple behind them, now only ruins.

My guys. BTW,  I have no photos of the Valley of Kings because cameras weren't allowed.  But it's pretty cool!

Temple of Hapshetsut - the queen who became a pharaoh.

The first really cool temple we've seen.

Anubis, the jackal-headed god that helps Osiris in the underworld.

The guy who took this photo for us had an MP5K in his back pocket.

A bit of color is left on the doorway.

Heads are almost always shown in profile, rarely face on.  Above the heads is a Ba, the spirit of a person.

Where sands buried the walls, the best colors are left.  The dual-feather headdress is a royal crown.

Horus.

Horus again.  He was a very important god, and probably the most pictured.

Protective cobra and vulture.

A nice owl.

A pot-bellied guy carrying canopic jars and standing on the symbol for gold.

Queen Hapshetsut.

Row of statues outside the temple.

Russ next to a Ba.

Stars on the ceiling, jars, vases and flowers.

Everywhere you look, more temples and monuments.

The Polish have a joint project with the Egyptians here - this photo is for our friends the Pawlikowskis!

Colorful stores with alabaster carvings for sale.

I like the airplane painted on the store to the left.  Apparently the artist can paint whatever he likes.

Definitely a 747 on this store.

The hotel in Luxor was supposed to have a roof garden, but it was under construction.  Still the view was nice.

Sunset over the Nile from the unfinished roof garden.

Luxor Temple was illuminated after dark.  There were many tourists.

It was much cooler and quite magical at night.

Luxor Temple is quite extensive - in all three dimensions.

A clearer view of three of the statues.
