Takayama, Japan - page 4

Nara       Osaka        Kyoto       Mt. Fuji       Tokyo

Walking back to the temple where we were renting a room, we got some nice views in Takayama city.

Walking through Takayama.

This carving is by Suzuki Ichiei.

Stone lanterns, shrines and vermillion-colored bridges.

An uncharacteristically messy entryway puzzled me, until I looked up & saw the baby birds nesting on the lamp.

Entryways are graced by potted plants.  This 4-leaf clover intrigued me.

An herbal remedies store.

Interesting products in the herbal remedies store.

You don't need to read Japanese to understand how this is supposed to help you.

The floats that are not in the museum are stored in their respective neighborhoods in these unusual garages.

A 3-wheeled truck.

The 3-wheeled truck and some interesting movie posters.

A street through the old town, looking almost as it used to hundreds of years ago.

This museum was unfortunately already closed for the day.  We could easily have spent another week here.

A night lantern

A bonsai azalea.

This is the inner atrium garden of the temple where we stayed.

Another view of the atrium.

More views of the atrium...

A view from the train leaving Takayama and going to Nagoya, where we switched to a train going to Mt Fuji.

Tea farms, seen from the train.

This is an incredibly scenic train trip.

A futuristic aluminum cylinder building next to a traditional tile-roofed home.
